My First Mother's Day...

I know its a little late, being it was Mother's Day yesterday, but I just wanted to post a few thoughts....I am so thankful to be a mother and I am so thankful for my mother. It is amazing how much appreciation you truly gain for your own mother after having a child of your own. It is such a beautiful emotional thing, and as my sister-in-law put it so well, it makes you think "You did this for me?" Hope you all had a fab mother's day and thank you all for your shining examples on what great mothers are made of.

Atonement

so another month, another book....Atonement by Ian McEwan. Everyone said it was a really hard read...and it was! I waited until the very last day to finish...but I am so glad that I did. I really felt the book was beautifully written and definately a different book than most I have read. I really liked the book and I thought it spoke about some interesting things...it made me think....

1. Do I remember a certain point when I graduated from child onto adulthood?
2. Is there something I have done so terrible that had damaging effects on someone else?
3. Is there a wrong that I could right?
4. How would I feel If I got a letter like the one Robbie gave Cecelia....woooie.

After watching the movie I decided the book portrayed so many things much much better and gave you much more insight into the whole picture. I would say that Briony was played to a "T" maybe even moreso a brat than in the book. Any way...thanks Ashlie for hosting and for the great discussion!

Steve goes to Pebble

Steve's dream finally came true! He had the opportunity to go to Pebble Beach Resort and Golf at 3 of their courses...Pebble Beach, Spyglass, and Spanish Bay. The last day they had some time to kill so they also went to Poppy Hills. He went with his boss and his boss' wife and had an amazing time...the room he stayed at was in The Lodge at Pebble Beach and was deluxe. I think the thing he loved most about his room was the supply of Toblerone candy bars (such a kid). It was a little cold, but beautiful and I'm sure well worth it. I am so happy that he got to go and experience this because it is something he has only been able to dream about. Dreams really do come true...

The Other Boleyn Girl....Book Club Recap

This month's read about sisters rivaling to win the affections of King Henry VIII and rise to the top to be his queen was quite the intriguing book. We had a wonderful discussion about it and I would say it was a success, although we were sad that some could not make it...NEXT TIME! Overall, we gave it an average rating of about 4 on a scale of 1-5. It was fascinating to learn of this time period and their customs with royalty and the roles men and women played. It was also interesting to read about a woman's ambition that will lead her to do anything to succeed...WOW.

We also discussed the upcoming book schedule and some things have changed....
For May we will be reading Atonement by Ian McEwan
and for July we will be reading Lovely Bones instead of Lucky by the same author.
So...please make note and hope to see you next month...also if you come to our book club and have not yet been, please come with suggestions of a book you would like to read. Thanks Soph, Kim, Ashlie, Rachel and Lindsay!
